About
Janluis Abreu, known professionally as Janluis X BND (Bachata Nos Domina), is an exhilarating voice in modern bachata, seamlessly blending deep Dominican heritage with a fresh, contemporary sound. From his roots as a teenage percussionist to a captivating frontman, his journey reflects both profound dedication to his craft and the vibrancy of his culture.
Born in Queens, New York, to Dominican parents, Janluis's upbringing was steeped in the rich traditions of sound and culture, particularly bachata and traditional Dominican music. His natural musical instincts developed early, especially on the güira, a signature instrument in Dominican music. He quickly gravitated towards rhythm and melody, which ultimately propelled him to pursue music professionally—a path that many young musicians only dream about.
At the young age of 16, Janluis earned his first major opportunity through an online audition for the dynamic bachata boy band DNX4, led by veteran music executive and producer Marvin Flores. His impressive musicianship and seasoned playing ability immediately stood out, securing his spot in the group as their güira player.
During his three years with DNX4, Janluis performed in over 100 concerts, festivals, and community events across the Tri-State area, including New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The group developed a strong reputation for their energetic live performances, but their commitment extended beyond the stage. DNX4 co-founded the Stop Hate Teen Tour, an impactful campaign aimed at raising awareness about school bullying. Through this tour, the group visited and performed at dozens of grammar schools, high schools, and Boys & Girls Clubs, using music as a platform to inspire young people and deliver positive messages.
Janluis and DNX4 also had the invaluable opportunity to open for several highly respected bachata and típico artists, gaining extensive exposure on larger stages and further honing his performance skills. He shared stages with many top bachata artists, including Raulin Rodriguez, among others, showcasing his versatility and command of the genre.
While a skilled percussionist, Janluis eventually felt called to a new role—that of a singer and frontman. This pivotal shift allowed him to truly embody his artistic vision. The experience within the band, coupled with his ambition, laid the foundation for his compelling stage presence and dynamic artistry.
Driven to master his artistic vision, he formed Janluis X BND (Bachata Nos Domina), a collective dedicated to emerging musicians united by their passion for bachata and Dominican culture. BND is more than just a band; it's a dynamic platform. He understands that everyone behind the instrument deserves recognition, ensuring each musician is presented by name and face, allowing them to share in the spotlight and contribute to the project's growth.
